Urban Paradise

After the sea, here I am back in Oslo. Here I am in the Urban Paradise. Maybe it is just the sea, maybe it is the spring I miss, maybe there are the people, the beer and the music on the streets. Or maybe it is just the no end day (right now in Oslo there is light all the time because of the high latitude). It is the no ending spring, my favorite season.

I can smell the sea, but also the grass. I can walk for hours, seeing different things, different people, being cold and hot, choosing my actions.

I can move from the rock section of Oslo Music Fest to hip-hop section, from reggae to jazz section. To have the full spectrum of music, in the evening I am listening DJ Tiesto in my room. I feel again European. It’s a great feeling after US. It is so different. It is so good.

Now, I am watching the red sky from 3:30AM and I am preparing to go in a kayaking trip in 2 hours. In the after noon I’ll be again in the streets of Oslo.

I deserve this. I’ve bought my place in paradise. It will be a short trip, so stop sleeping, start
dreaming.

Traveling

Last 9 months were different for me. Gatwick, Istanbul, Diyarbakir, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Warszawa, Paris, Oslo, Kristinsund, Miami, New Orleans, Tulsa, Dallas, Pennsylvania, Atlanta, New York. All these towns have something in common – they all have an airport. I was there, moving from one continent to another. In each airport I spent in average almost 3.5 hours. Total so far – approximate 3 days in different airports.

I was protected by rain, or snow, from heat or could weather by glass and steel. The lack of time kept me prisoner between shops, restaurants and coffee machines. It was a great joy for me when I had actually the chance to really visit these places (only 50%), to walk on the streets and see the local people and their way of living.

Maybe this is the reason why my enthusiasm when I am in a new place is: ‘another fucking airport’.

Sailor 2

I spent 6 weeks on the sea. For some seem just a little, or maybe like a lot for others. I think this is enough for me.

Here I am in the last day of this trip. Last shift, last 4 hours. I try to look back to this experience, to this lifestyle that will be mine for a while.

What did I learn? Patience. What did I win? Money. What did I miss? My girlfriend, my mountains, my life.

Someone said that this job will help me discover new things about me. Well, I didn’t. I discover instead another world. The world of a marine seismic crew. 50 men from all over the world (25 nationalities) and all of them are gathering together to make money.

I tried to find similar situation with this one. The only things that I could find are a monastery where the new religion is work and the world described by Frank Helbert in his book: ‘The Plague’. Sometimes I was tempted to add the image of a prison, but the peace that I found here from time to time makes me forget this version.

Tomorrow I’ll leave for 6 weeks this place. The funny think is that I am sure I’m going to miss the sea. I heard stories that the sea is the mistress of the sailors. I am not I sailor, but I start to love the sea.

See you soon, Golf of Mexico.
